Bangkok Shopping

Bangkok is one of Asia's top shopping destinations, giving its visitors a spectacular spread of fashion variety across the many shopping malls in the city.Seasoned travellers are probably familiar with the must-visit Chatuchak Market, but there are many new shopping complexes which have sprouted up in recent years.

1. Chatuchak  Market - weekend market
Food, clothes, plants, home decoration items, antique, collectable goods, books, hand-made products, pottery and even pets. Name it and Chatuchak has it!   Brave the heat at this outdoor market fair and your inner bargain hunter will be rewarded with over 8,000 stalls opening from Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 6 pm; the clothes zone only opens on weekends.

2. CentralWorld Bangkok
What to expect: Top fashion brands, funky wears, high-tech gadgets, bookshops, designer furniture, gourmet eats and even a skating rink.

3. Platinum Fashion Mall - many small stalls
What to expect: This mall takes the outdoor flea market concept in-doors. Forget the hot sun and unpleasant toilets, you'll be shopping in comfort at this place. A favourite among students and office workers, be sure to find many clothes for casual wear sporting the latest trends. You get to buy in wholesale prices too - if you buy in combinations, said Bangkok.com.

4. MBK, Siam - MUST visit shopping

5. Siam Centre
What to expect: Over 200 international and local brands reside in this mall which opened in 2013. You can find many promising local designers and renowned Thai couturiers, said Bangkok.com.

6. Siam Paragon,  This is one of the most high-end luxury malls in Bangkok. Other than shopping and fine dining, visitors can also check out the 16-screen Paragon Cineplex, Kinokuniya bookstore, gourmet cafés and restaurants and Siam Ocean World aquarium.

7. Central Embassy

8. Central Chidlom
What to expect: On a smaller scale than the others, this mall has everything you need and a trendy food court concept called Food Loft, said Bangkok.com.

9. The Emporium
What to expect: Love fashion? Then this is mall is just right you with its first two stories being devoted to solely for fashion. The rest are for sports fashion, home and lifestyle products, electronics, food and entertainment.

10. Terminal 21, Sukhumvit Road

11. Pantip Plaza is the most famous electronics mall in the city, Visitors can find the latest gadgets at wholesale prices and also used products at "rock-bottom prices".If you are looking for a quick fix, you can find many technical specialists in one building offering their services.However, like all IT malls, Pantip Plaza has also gained notoriety for selling counterfeit products,

12.  Asiatique The Riverfront, is the newest Bangkok Night Market, opened in May 2012.. Asiatique the Riverfront, a massive new shopping and lifestyle complex beside Bangkok's Chao Phraya river, is set to become one of the city's top entertainment destinations for tourists.

Opening hours: 5pm to midnight
How to get there: By boat. Take the BTS (skytrain) to Saphan Taksin station. Then walk to the river. There you can get on a free ferry boat to Asiatique The Riverfront – it’s about 15 minutes and you get to enjoy the nice view of the Chao Phraya river. The boat leaves from the Saphan Taksin station every 15 minutes, starting at 4:30 p.m. and the last boat leaves from the Asiatique pier back to Saphan Thaksin at 11:30 p.m. It’s best to avoid going by taxi, because the road that leads there suffers from chronic trafficjam.
